WaterAid has been working in India since 1986 and has played a significant role in the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) sector nationally and in the states. Our mission is to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised peopleby improving access to WASH services.
WaterAid India has a goal to “Make WASH poverty a history in the country”. To achieve this, WaterAid India engage in the areas with the greatest concentration of excluded and marginalised communities and empower and include them in local decision making, help revive and strengthen the local governance institutions and influence those responsible for delivering the basic WASH services.
WaterAid India support the central government programmes like Swachh Bharat Mission and National Rural Drinking Water Programme and try to ensure that they enshrine principles of quality, equity, inclusion and sustainability, the foundation of all WaterAid’s programmes.We monitor the effectiveness of WASH service delivery, advocate for the essential role of safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation in human development particularly in health, nutrition, and education. WaterAid India facilitates and fosters an enabling environment for collaboration, convergence, learning and growth.
In India currently, WaterAid India directly intervene in 43 districts, and 14 towns/cities across 11 states. In the year 2015-16 we reached 7,03,925 people with water, 11,23,180 people with sanitation and 18,87,253 people with hygiene.
WASH in education, health and communities.
WaterAid is working in Uttar Pradesh in nine districts Lucknow, Sant Kabir Nagar, Kushinagar, Fatehpur, Sitapur, Mahoba, Banda, Chitrakoot, Kanpur Nagar. Major issues which we are focusing are water, sanitation and hygiene. We are very closely working with state health mission on menstrual hygiene management and are part of TGS group adolescent health. , WASH in health care center with GM planning department.
