PISRD registered under Society Registration Act 1860, Section 21 was established in 1987 as an independent research and action-oriented organization, working in the field of rural and urban development. The management of the Institute is vested in the Executive Body of seven members from various disciplines.

The Organization is also registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976; The Organization is a Health partner and Thematic Support Group member of Health Partners Forum in UP for Adolescent Health under NHM. Besides being a member of ASHA Mentoring Group under NHM, the organization is also a core member of ARC (Advocating Reproductive Choices) and Anti- Tobacco in state of Uttar Pradesh.PISRD has been supported by ISRO and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and various other ministries like Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, Social Justice and empowerment, Minority Affairs, Govt. of India etc. for the conduction of numerous research studies with reference to the problems faced by various sections of the society. We have completed various interventions pertaining to Adolescents, Young People Sexual and Reproductive Health Rigths, etc. with the support from European Union, SIDA, DFID, etc.
