Operation of Mobile Medial Units (MMUs) in Select 15 Districts of UP

The scheme 'Mukhya Mantri Mahamaya Sachal Aspatal Yojna' (Mobile Medial Unit) was launched on 15th January 2011 with the objective to provide regular primary health services in underserved villages/regions in selected districts through MMU. The scheme is operational in 15 select districts (i.e. Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Gazipur, Kushi Nagar, Deoria, Mau, Ballia, Banda, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jalaun, Jhansi and Lalitpur). One MMU is operational in each of the Blocks of the select District except for the District Head Quarter Block. There are a total of 133 Mobile vans operational in the state.

The key objectives of operations of MMUs are

  1. To provide regular primary health services in underserved villages/regions in selected districts through Mobile Medical Units where health facilities such as PHCs, CHCs or private health care facilities are absent or limited.
  2. To improve uptake of curative and preventive health services such as immunisation, antenatal and post natal care, and general OPD services, in the identified villages/regions, with the aim of reducing the incidence of common illnesses and lowering maternal mortality and infant mortality.

The MMUs will provide services for 6 days in a week. A route chart will be prepared and each MMU will deliver services from community meeting places in the village and will visit the selected villages/habitations twice a month (once every 2 weeks).
